The Courrier des Balkans and the Institute Musine Kokalari are pleased to invite you to a public round table followed by a press conference on “Violences, genders and media in the Western Balkans”.
The event will take place on Friday, June 23rd at 9:30 am, in the premises of the Kolegji AAB, Pristina.
Sexual and gender based violence has become a rising issue in the Western Balkans public debate. This public reunion aims at further facilitating exchanges between journalists from several WB countries, to reflect together on good practices in better covering gender violences in medias, hence contributing to a better coverage of gender issues in the region’s media.
Different experts are invited to speak out :
Besarta Breznica, Program Officer for Addressing Gender Based Violence at Kosovo Women Network
Liri Kuçi, co-editor in chief of the feminist magazin Shota from Tirana
Jovana Gligorijević, journalist and co-founder of the group "Female journalists against gender violence” from Belgrade
Dardan Hoti, journalist, documentary filmaker and founder of the NGO Sekhmet
Besa Luci, Chief Editor and co-founder of Kosovo 2.0 from Pristina
Moderator : Simon Rico, Courrier des Balkans Co-editor in chief
Students in journalism, communication and social science curricula will also take part in the round table, followed by exchanges and a press meeting at noon.
Morning program :
9 h 30 – 12 h 00 : Round-table and discussions between representatives from feminists and LGBTQI+ organizations and journalists from the Balkans, followed by exchanges with the audience,
12 h – 13 h : Press brief and speech from the Swiss and Luxembourgish head of mission, our project sponsors.
The meal (13h-14h) will be offered at the cafeteria of the University
In the afternoon (14h30-17h30), 4 workshops will take place, engaging journalists, activists, and students on tools and good practices to improve the media covering of gender and sexual violences. The outcome of these workshops will materialize in publications in French, English, Albanian, and Serbian. Le Courrier des Balkans ainsi que l’Institut Musine Kokalari ont le plaisir de vous convier à une table ronde publique, suivie d’un point presse sur le thème des “Violences, genres et médias dans les Balkans occidentaux”, le vendredi 23 juin 2023 à partir de 9h au Kolegji AAB, à Pristina.
La question des violences sexistes et sexuelles et de la libération de la parole des femmes a fait irruption en 2021 dans le débat public des Balkans occidentaux. Deux ans plus tard, où en est-on ?
Cette journée rencontre vise à favoriser les échanges entre journalistes des pays des Balkans occidentaux, pour réfléchir ensemble à la manière de mieux traiter ces problématiques et contribuer à un meilleur traitement des questions de genre dans les médias de la région.
Lors de cette matinée, différent.e.s spécialistes seront invité.e.s à s’exprimer. Parmi elles :
- Besarta Breznica, chargée de programme pour lutter contre la violence basée sur le genre au sein du Kosovo Women’s Network à Pristina
- Liri Kuçi, corédactrice en chef du magazine féministe Shota à Tirana
- Jovana Gligorijević, journaliste et co-fondatrice du groupe "Femmes journalistes contre la violence sexiste à Belgrade
- Dardan Hoti, journaliste, documentariste et fondateur de l’ONG Sekhmet

La journée continuera l’après-midi avec une série de quatre ateliers auxquels les panélistes, journalistes, activistes et étudiants réfléchiront ensemble sur des outils et pratiques permettant d’améliorer le traitement médiatique des violences sexuelles et de genre. Ces ateliers donneront lieu à des publications en français, anglais, albanais et serbe. Pour clôturer cette journée, nous vous invitons à une soirée conviviale organisée au Bubble Pub, premier bar queer de Pristina, à partir de 19 h.
