The European Policy Centre is pleased to invite you to this in-person Policy Briefing with H.E. Fatmir Besimi, Minister of Finance of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has significantly impacted the Balkans, creating a new set of economic challenges and security concerns. What have been the economic and political aftershocks of the war in the Balkans ? How is the cost-of-living and energy crises affecting the region’s economic growth ? How have recent events changed the region’s EU membership prospects ? What are the security implications of the ongoing war for the stability of the Balkans ?

Minister Fatmir Besimi will discuss North Macedonia’s geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges resulting from the war in Ukraine, the country’s EU integration agenda and regional and economic cooperation in the Balkans. Minister Besimi will also address North Macedonia’s plans to make progress on reforms and to deal with the challenges arising from the Zeitenwende.

Participation is open to EPC members, the media and EU officials.
