Tackling disinformation : Lessons from citizen dialogues in the Western Balkans

| Le

Dealing with the pervasive issue of disinformation is imperative, given its enduring risks to democracy and social cohesion. Effectively tackling this multifaceted challenge demands innovative solutions, and collective intelligence emerges as a promising approach.

"From Fake to Check" – an initiative coordinated by Mission Publique and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany – engaged citizens from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia in deliberations about the dynamics of disinformation to find collaborative solutions.

What are the results of these citizens’ dialogues ? How do they compare to member states’ participatory events on the same topic ? Do the proposed solutions resonate with the European response envisioned or pursued in regard to disinformation ? To what extent can participatory instruments help with problem-solving on complex and critical issues of broad-based relevance ?

This in-person Policy Dialogue will address these questions and consider the perspective of the citizens who participated in the dialogues.
