We are a group of young people willing to participate in the March for Peace on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Muslims’ Genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Beyond Remembrance, we wish to produce a comics book and a manual for use in the school, as tools for education on Genocides and Human Rights. As ambitious as it is, thanks to our willingness, energy and ingenuity, this project needs only 2500 Euros. We know we can count on you for gathering this amount. Any contribution is welcome. Together, we will make it !

On July 11, 1995, the units of the Army of Republika Srpska under the command of General Radtko Mladic completed the ethnic cleansing of the enclave of Srebrenica. More than 8,000 Bosnian Muslims, mainly men and boys, were murdered and their bodies dumped in mass graves. More than 20,000 people (mostly women, children and elderly) were deported. 50 years after the Holocaust, Europe plunge again in the darkness of the Second World War. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide in an Europe where nationalisms and xenophobia are spreading due to the economic crisis : are we finally ready to learn from history ? The project "In March for Peace" will bring together 25 young activists from 6 European countries and different backgrounds : young Muslims, Orthodox, Catholics, Jews and Roma decided to join forces to build a new culture of Remembrance and relationships of peace in order that “Srebrenica never happens again to no-one and no-where in the world.”

Comics Book and Manual on Genocide Education
The project “In March for Peace” will create a comics book on the Srebrenica Genocide : the comic book has the aim to educate and inform the new generations about History, according to the modern necessity of a world based on the visual impact. The comics book will be based on the personal history of a survivor of the Srebrenica Genocide, his fought for the life, the solidarity and brotherhood between human beings in one of the black page of humanity.

The Manual on Genocide Education has the aim to make aware the educational institutions about the need to promote new tools and way to educate young people about Remembrance. The good practices developed in the project will be collected in the Manual and will be promoted through conferences, seminars and public events to different educational institutions.

Which Remembrance ?
The Srebrenica Genocide shows the failure of the International Institutions such as the UN, that were created after the WWII in order to prevent that facts such as the Holocaust will happen again on European soil. Moreover, it shows also the failure of the classical technics to educate young people on Remembrance. The project has the aim to build and spread a new culture of Remembrance, not only based on the “victimization” of historical events and oppressed groups, but to highlight the stories of the survivors, heroes and those human beings that fought for the most basic values of freedom and democracy !

Why it’s important support us ?
In this very moment the world is facing an economic crises that lead to the return of nationalism and xenophobia in many European countries. In this historic moment become fundamental to learn the lessons of the History in order to prevent that it will repeat itself again. Support the project “In March for Peace” means support a group of persons completely different between them, but united in the same dream to change this society. By supporting us you will be part of the new generations of “peaceful warriors”, ambassadors of a “New Era” where everybody will be accepted for what she/he/it is.
